about

In sheer frustration I am hurling two new songs into the void. Two angry songs about right wing politics / politicians which have been simmering in my mind for the past year or two. Songs which composed themselves by playing on loop in my head when I wasn’t paying attention. I hadn’t really intended to do anything with them until now because I wanted my next ‘thing’ to be something positive, beautiful, and different.

But, y’know… fuck it. The 7th May happened. So I locked myself in a room this past weekend and got them taped. Why? Because it will make me feel better.

This is my response to the heartache of my fellow UKians making a very bad decision which will hurt us all, and hurt the poor and vulnerable the most; some songs. These are not the wise, empathic, inspiring songs of liberal values I aspire to write (maybe next time). These are songs drowning in their own inadequacy, riddled with expletives and crudeness born of frustration, shonkily recorded and quickly mixed, flailing for a point. Pissed off.

The title track began as an idea for a whole EP of songs to be called stuff like... ‘War Is Bad’, ‘Racism Is Bad’, ‘Sugar Is Bad’... that sort of thing. It’s kind of poking fun at the stupidity of stating ‘the Government Is Bad’, whilst also acknowledging that the government may, in some respects, actually be bad. ‘IDSTD’ is a simple song of love and admiration for a towering figure of our age.

Some songs. Here they are. Listen to them. Share them. Maybe they’ll make you feel better too?
